Employment Opportunities

You can pick up a volunteer application at Orange Rural Fire Department Station One located at 206 South Churton Street in downtown Hillsborough.

Return the application, along with a copy of your criminal record from the Orange County courthouse, to the fire station.

Requirements to become a volunteer for the Orange Rural Fire Department are as follows:

Must live in Orange County
Must be at least 18 years of age and have an acceptable driving record
Must be in good health
Must possess good moral and ethical standards

Once you return the application, we will read it to the general membership at the next business meeting. After we read your application to the memberhip, we ask that you come down and watch the training activities for the next few Monday nights. This allows the members to meet you and get an idea of who you are.

The following business meeting after the reading, the membership votes on your application for probationary status.

It's not as bad as it sounds -- we're always happy to get new, eager people into our fire department family.

You can also call and have an application mailed to you. Call 919-732-7911 Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

If you do not make the published deadline, we do keep an on-hand pool of applications in the event any positions become available. If this happens, we will notify you by phone.

The Orange Rural Fire Department has an opening for Firefighter/ First Responder.

Requirements:

North Carolina Firefighter Level 2 Certification

EMT-B

Class B Drivers License or the ability to obtain

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications
